Gems

Gem Set #1

Explosive Arrow

Fires an arrow which acts as a short duration fuse. Applying additional arrows to an enemy extends the duration. When the target dies or the fuses expire, the arrows explode, dealing fire AoE damage to nearby enemies. The AoE radius is proportional to the number of arrows upon death.

Explosive Arrow
Elemental Proliferation

Elemental status effects (for example, freezing or burning) caused by this skill also affect nearby enemies.

Elemental Proliferation
Chance to Ignite

Increases the skill's chance to ignite enemies when dealing fire damage.

Chance to Ignite
Fire Penetration

The attached skill ignores some portion of the target's fire resistance.

Fire Penetration

Gem Set #2

Cast When Damage Taken

Supported skills have a chance to cast supported spells when you take damage. You cannot cast supported spells directly. Also reduces damage taken.

Cast When Damage Taken
Enduring Cry

Performs a warcry, adding endurance charges proportional to the number of surrounding enemies. Taunts all nearby enemies to attack the caster.

Enduring Cry
Molten Shell

Summons fiery elemental shields providing additional armour for a short duration. If cumulative physical damage prevented by your blocking or armour reaches a threshold, the shields explode outwards, dealing fire damage to surrounding enemies.

Molten Shell

Gem Set #3

Flammability

Curses all targets in an area, making them less resistant to fire damage and giving fire damage a chance to burn.

Flammability
Increased Area of Effect

Increases the radius of area of effect skills.

Increased Area of Effect
Increased Duration

Increases the duration of the skill.

Increased Duration

Gem Set #4

Split Arrow

Fires multiple arrows at different targets.

Split Arrow
Life Gain on Hit

Restores players life when they hit an enemy.

Life Gain on Hit
Item Rarity

Increases the rarity of items dropped by monsters killed with this skill.

Item Rarity
Culling Strike

Enemies die when they are reduced to 10% or less life.

Culling Strike

Bandits

Help Oak in Normal Difficulty - Rewards +40 to Maximum Life
Kill all the bandits in Cruel Difficulty - Rewards 1 Passive Skill Point
Help Oak in Merciless Difficulty - Rewards +1 to Maximum Endurance Charge

Gear

All you need is armor, life, and resists... everything else is a bonus!

Guide

Hey everyone i had been playing this build on nemesis and have just made it to merciless act 3 yesterday! I am LOVING this build.. so much survivability and so much damage for little damage nodes. Since explosive arrow doesn't require any damage nodes to make it good, that is what makes this gem so special and allows you to spec fully defensive. You will only need one unique item for this build, the quill rain. This maximizes your dps with the 3.11 attacks per second, and once again the damage on the quill rain does not affect the EA damage. Your main 4 link is going to be EA, ele prolif, chance to ignite and fire penetration. 5l will add burning damage and 6l will add empower. A very important 3 link you will need for this is cast on damage taken (UNLEVELED) with enduring cry and molten shell. This will make you such a tank, basically everytime you get hit your getting 5-7 endurance charges and a molten shell on you. I am at school currently and i will be updating this page quite often.. feel free to message me in game at EAscionss, in America server. Cheers!

Some stats to look forward too is high hp, and life regen. You will be running blood magic which will make the life regen essential.. but also very helpful. You can opt out for more regen near trolls blood if you want that instead of 16% life. With this build running 7 endurance charges you will be sitting comfortably at around 9% life regen.. for those of you who don't know thats insane PER SECOND.

I did almost die at merciless weaver with -60 chaos resist... which is not recommened to have! Try and stack chaos resist on some gear as you gain lots of passive resist from the skill tree. Quality Gems can be a big help in this build, but i didn't hjave any until just recently and it worked out fine. The most important one Quality Explosive Arrow, and Burning Damage is you get a 5l. Both of these gems with quality will give you more chance to ignite which is very relevant.

One gem that is very handy to keep around is Conc effect for bossing... sub it in for ele prolif on boss fights that dont have reflect and bosses will just melt once you ignite them.

Quality on other gems will give you mostly ignite duration, which is nice...but not necessary since you attack so fast and your ignite will proc most of the time.

If you are stuggling to get the 4link colours for a bit, i was leveling using EA with LMP and fire pen until around 38 to be honest and it worked just fine. I would recommend going blood magic in the skill tree ASAP and stack life early on.

You will be using split arrow to trigger Elemental Equilibrium , with any added lightning or cold from gear.... if you actually have none which shouldnt happen, use lightning arrow instead. This will also gain you life from mobs when using it respectively, life gain on hit is essential because you wont be doing enough damage to leech health. Linking this with culling and item rarity is AMAZING because monsters killed by burn damage dont get affected by item rarity, which sucks. So your going to want to curse flammability, stack 5 arrows, split arrow, let it blow up, split arrow spam the pack down. This will make you a very happy camper

Hello!,

I've been trying this build and its pretty nice :) it has some dexterity problems at the first but you can get some nodes from the start to compensate this, also I'd like to recommend another gem in the gem set #2, if you have a 4 red slotted item you can add a rejuvenation totem, this makes things easier and you don't really need any life on hit or life leech. So far I'm lvl 64, have 4k hp and a life regen of 180hp/s + 80/s of the rejuvenation totem. Hope it helped!

yep,I also tried this build and turned out that the plain and simple solutions included in the poe guide at https://mmoauctions.com/news/poe-scion-build-discover-the-endless-possibilities
proved to be way more viable at the end of the day. Strongly recommend, giving it a read!

Any recommendation for first pathing in passive skilltree or did you mean that you went directly for blood magic? Have the bow, so i am gonna try this build today or tomorrow.

I have my bow with gem set#1 and almost all the gem setups still my dmg is so low it gets boring to "thunk" down monsters, also have sligtly problems with BM and explosive as my dmg is so low=/ anything you could point out how to fixt this slight problem in low lvl (i am at 29 atm)... as i want to try this build out to the fullest as i love the idea of ir=)

Well i don't know why you guys are having troubles, i'm now lv 32 scion with this build, and i have the split arrow + life on hit and explosive arrow and my dps is insane, i just walk through the regions like its nothing to be honest. The life steal on split arrow is sick. The only thing i did was add ' clearity ' to spam my abilities and use ' puncture ' to counter mobs with health regen :)

So I am trying this build out and I am a bit dissapointed. I am level 31, and I am using the quillrain bow. My problem is my dps sucks. Just flat out, it's terrible. My auto attack is at 83dps and that is with some pretty nice +dmg rings and necklace and quiver. Other people using different builds at level 30 are ~1000dps. So when I am taking time to shoot down that last white mob its like *thunk* *thunk* *thunk* *thunk* *thunk* *thunk* *thunk* *thunk* *thunk* *thunk* *thunk* *thunk* *thunk* *thunk* finally dead. Other than that, the build is very strong, I don't have a problem with survivability using blood magic, especially with split arrow+fork+life on hit. But... Maybe once I can get a setup with the Elem Prolif + Chance to Ignite + Fire pen it will get better.
