Gear

SHIELD: Get your hands on the best shield with a minimum of 32% chance to block.
Crest of Perandus, LionEye's Remorse, Aegis Aurora, and Daresso's Courage are ideal candidates.

WEAPON: You need a hard hitting, fast one handed weapon. Soul Taker, Brightbeak, and The Goddess Bound are all good choices depending on your level.

AMULET: The Anvil is your best friend on this build, but settle for Stone of Lazhwar until you meet the requirements.

BOOTS: Rainbowstride as soon as you can get them, but use any boots with a large modifier to your movement speed in the meantime.

GLOVES: A good unique, Slitherpinch is usually my choice.

HELMET: Your end goal should be either The Bringer of Rain or Alpha's Howl.

CHEST: Kaom's Heart and
Astral Plate are good ideas, but just get the highest armor rated unique you can until then.

Other than that, you want all of your equipment pieces to have, where humanly possible, life, armor, just a little bit of each of fire, cold and lightning resist sufficient to max you out, evasion, a little bit of dexterity if required to equip your shield, and damage related mods that fit with your chosen attack skill gems.

Guide

The basic idea of this build is to have a very easy to play melee character with high life, 75 percent chance to block, decent armor, evasion and elemental resistances and to also deliver a good amount of damage. In keeping with the 'easy to play' theme, all of the defensive stratagems employed in the build must be passive, or at most, activated once per area change. No debuffs to repetitively cast, no endurance charges to worry about. Just wade right in there and smack 'em in the face. :) Stopping to check the loot, or to smell the roses as it were, is no problem for this build. Easy.
The build does not require any specific unique items, making it doable for even those just starting out in Wraeclast.
For maximum flexibility, you can use virtually any melee attack skill gems and one handed sword of choice.

I took up this build for my Templar after looking for something flexible and relatively easy to play. I'm level 41 now and find it a bit hard playing solo, as even with a recommended weapon like Brightbeak, I find that I'm dealing very little damage. Maybe later on with a better weapon things will balance out.

Also, I wondered why you didn't pick the 40% faster mana regen skill at the very start?

LOL I'm an idiot. I knew you could link 2 skills together! Thanks for the reply.

I like the build, but because you are using a 1 Handed weapon and a shield, you can only have 1 5+ socket item, it being the chest piece. But you have Heavy Strike and Cleave listed with 4 support gems attached to them. How would you go about fixing that?
