The future of any player is so uncertain that you're better investing in different areas, since it's a lot harder for something to go wrong with an entire group of players. The most effective way to select valuable players out of the draft is not to be the highest pick: It's to have the most choices, and the greatest chances to pick players that will not bust.

But at least when Washington traded for the number. 2 selection, it was the chance to acquire a quarterback prospect that everyone believed would succeed.

None of the players in this class meets that description. Those were highly touted prospects who were battling to be deemed the best. This is a crop of potential candidates, and no one knows which has the greatest potential to be great.
